At least 18 passengers were injured at Palma de Mallorca airport in Spain during the evacuation of a Ryanair Boeing 737, which was preparing to take off.

According to initial information, a possible fire was reported on board, which later turned out to be false, reports Corriere della Sera.

What happened?

The plane was flying to Manchester in England and everything happened late on the evening of July 4th.

A video posted on social media shows dozens of passengers leaving the plane by jumping from one of the wings, which was about 3 meters above the ground.

Some of them were injured as soon as they touched down. In cases of emergency evacuation, all the escape slides at the plane's exits are usually inflated. It is still unclear why only one of them, the one at the front left door, was operational.

"A flight from Palma to Manchester aborted take-off due to a fire alarm being mistakenly activated ," the airline confirmed in a statement.

"Passengers were evacuated using inflatable slides and returned to the terminal. During disembarkation, a small number of passengers suffered minor injuries (ankle injuries, etc.), and the crew sought immediate medical attention. Further, to minimize inconvenience to passengers, we quickly arranged a replacement aircraft to operate the flight, which departed Palma at 07:05 on Saturday morning. We sincerely apologize to the passengers involved for any inconvenience caused," Ryanair said.

Ryanair flight 3446 was scheduled to depart Palma at 22:50. Of the 18 people injured, six were taken to hospital.
