"She was evil, she betrayed me..." - Albanian man who killed wife in

The image of an unfaithful wife and a bad mother attempted to be "artistically" portrayed this Tuesday in the Greek Court, where 39-year-old Kastriot Cenko appeared before the black platoons and gave his testimony regarding the murder of his wife, Alba Cenko, at the end of November 2024.

During his testimony at the Serious Crimes Court, the 39-year-old tried to justify the crime by claiming that his relationship with his wife had been tense for years. He stated that Alba had been having an extramarital affair and that shortly before the incident, she had told him that one of the children was not his.

"I was surprised when she told me that one of our children was not mine, she had an extramarital affair with a childhood friend," Cenko claimed during his defense, trying to blame the victim, whom he said he loved very much!

According to the indictment, the 39-year-old Albanian, after hitting his wife with a hammer, strangled her with a charger cable. He then took her body to the attic of their home and hid it there for a week.

During this time, the couple's children, now 13 and 11 years old, continued their daily lives inside the house and the defendant played the role of the worried husband, even playing a role in the play for both the woman's relatives and his children.

Specifically, with Alba Cenko's phone, he sent a message to their two sons, telling them that "mom ran away to collect money, she went far away and will be late returning" . At the same time, the 39-year-old was also trying to mislead the woman's relatives, sending messages from her cell phone to her sister to calm her down.

Posing as the victim, he wrote to his sister-in-law that 32-year-old Alba was fine and that she had left for Italy with a friend, urging her not to talk to the authorities because she would lose her job.

But after all these attempts to hide his wife's murder, the 39-year-old finally gave in and called the police. He testified today during his testimony.

Today, during his defense in court, the defendant first apologized and described in detail his family life with the victim.

Iku me motrën e saj. Kishte shkuar te prindërit e saj", tha ai.

Gjyqtari: Pse iku?

Tha se do ta merrte fëmijën dhe do të largohej. Isha i hutuar...

Defendant: When I squeezed her with the cable, I was trying to bring her to her senses. I massaged her chest. She wasn't breathing.

Judge: How can he breathe with the cable around his neck?

Defendant: I wasn't fully recovered to understand what I had done...

Continuing, the defendant claimed that the only thing he thought about was not letting the children wake up and see their dead mother. "I got up in the morning, went to work and met my brother..." he said and continued: "The only thing I thought about was how to find a way to tell the children, to tell everyone. I lifted her up to the attic with great difficulty. Where would I put her? In the closet? The children would open it to get their clothes. I thought about committing suicide, but I didn't do it because of the children. All this was done for the child, the children were my breath and my life. He took the quilt and a sheet and wrapped her..."

Judge: I hear about a hammer, a sheet. How did you have these in the apartment?

Defendant: I'm a builder and I have them. I had the sheet to put on the balcony.

Judge: It didn't occur to you to call an ambulance, maybe he was alive?

Defendant: I put her in the closet. I got up in the morning and took the kids to school. I wasn't feeling well... I was trying to find the courage to explain to the kids. I wanted to go to work and they were asking me what was wrong with me. I was going to tell them that she had supposedly left...

Judge: Why did you go through the process of putting her in the attic, if you had to say it? You took her, wrapped her, carried her, put her in the attic...

Defendant: I wasn't normal. I put it in the attic.

Judge: Since you said you wanted time to tell, why was the body wrapped so well? You had put 8 layers of bags on the body plus two layers on the head..

Defendant: I don't remember... If I wanted to disappear, I could. But I never thought of hiding it. But where would I leave the body? In the closet for the kids to open and scare them? It was a small apartment...
