Albania is buying energy at the highest ever contracted prices.

The Albanian Electric Power Corporation bought energy last week at a price of 430 euros per megawatt hour, reaching historical records. The price of energy on the Hungarian stock exchange reached 417 euros the day before and 390 euros this Friday.

KESH has spent 3.5 million euros per day to buy energy. For the whole of July, the bill for energy insurance amounts to 50 million euros.

The high prices of imported energy have forced the Albanian Electric Power Corporation to increase energy production in the face of increased consumption demands.

The energy reserve has reached 0.9 gigawatt hours from 1 gigawatt that was 10 days ago. But despite the increase in production, Albania has not managed to meet its own consumption needs.

40% of the demand for energy is being imported, while the level in the Fierza hydropower plant has dropped by 4 meters compared to the beginning of the month.

Fierza has reached 285 meters, while Komani and Vau i Dejës are in the quotas of 177 and 73 meters. (GRAPHIC)

KESH has bought 50 thousand megawatt hours of energy in the last week and has opened another tender for the purchase of a similar amount for the next few days.
