Cultural tourism continues to grow at a time when Albania is offering a year-round tourist offer. 2024 is the most positive year in terms of cultural heritage visitation.
In 12 months, over 1.3 million visitors have entered 28 cultural facilities and sites, 31% more than in 2023.
There are no surprises, just like last year, the Gjirokastra Castle remains the first most frequented destination this year, with over 263 thousand visitors, or 20.7% more than in 2023.
Unlike 2023, where the Shkodra Archaeological Park was ranked second as the most visited, in 2024 it ranks fourth with over 157 thousand. After Gjirokastra, the most visited site is Butrint with over 200 thousand visitors. The Gjergj Kastrioti Museum in Krujë is also ranked as the most visited with over 174 thousand visitors and Apolonia with 121 thousand.
Investments in cultural institutions are expected to further increase services, while the goal is for the figures to be even more positive this year.
