Andrea Pirlo has returned to the bench of an Italian club, namely Sampdoria.
Samp will play in Serie B next season after being relegated from Serie A last season, with Pirlo reportedly on a two-year deal with an option for a third season.
Fabio Grosso was Sampdoria's main target but failed to reach an agreement with the club's new owner Andrea Radrizzani.
The Italian businessman who recently bought Sampdoria, saving the club from bankruptcy, is said to have met Pirlo three times. Di Marzio claims Pirlo's enthusiasm and experience eventually convinced Radrizzani.
The star of Juventus and Milan spent the last season in Turkey where he took charge of Karagumruk. Pirlo returns to Italy after a one-year spell at Juventus in 2020-2021, when he won a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa/
