Turkey's shooter, Yusuf Dikets, has gone viral for the minimal equipment he wore and his immense composure during his competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Dickets, the 51-year-old shooter who won silver in the mixed 10m air pistol event with Seval Ilayda Tarhan at the Paris Olympics, wore only earplugs and normal glasses, one hand remaining in his pocket. But despite the calmness and sportsmanship that he reflected to the public, it shows that "a storm broke out" inside him at those moments.
"At that moment, everyone says I looked very calm, but in reality, a storm broke out inside me," the 51-year-old said in a statement provided by BBC Sport. “I think my 'pose' represented the Olympic spirit, fair play, simplicity, clarity and naturalness. That's why it got so much attention," Dickets said.
After securing his first Olympic medal, Dickets aims to do his best at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and dethrone Serbian champions Zorana Arunovic and Damir Majecs, aiming for gold.
"I lent the (Serbian winners) the gold medal only until 2028", he said.
