The Albanian national team will have a new "weapon" in attack, starting with the September matches: Cristian Shpendi.
Shpendi, who has excelled in the last two seasons with Cesena in Italy, comes from “Shpresat”. He now looks ready for the A team, especially after the 11 goals he scored last season in Serie B.
The news of Shpendi's move to the first team was confirmed by the Technical Director of the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF), Fulvio Pea.
In an interview with "Radio Firenza Viola", Pea spoke about Shpendi, who has long been wanted by Fiorentina, as well as several other clubs in Serie A.
Initially, Pea put Shpendi on a pedestal, saying: "He is a fast, technical and concrete striker. He knows how to score, attack spaces and help the team."
"Although young, he is mature and has a lot of room for improvement. His goals over the years speak for themselves."
He then added: "He recently finished his time with the U-21 team and will now be included in the adult national team because he is very promising."
22-year-old Shpendi has left a visible mark on Cesena since his transfer in 2020 and a year later in the first team.
With Cesena's first team, Shpendi has scored 36 goals and provided eight assists in 101 games. He finished last season in Serie B with 11 goals and one assist in 34 appearances.
Albania will play one match for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September. Another will be in October. The qualifiers conclude with two November matches.
In the Group K rankings of the 2026 World Cup European qualifiers, Albania is positioned in second place.
England are top of the group with 9 points after the first three matches. The Rossoneri are second with 5 points after four matches.
Serbia is third with 4 points after the first two matches. Latvia comes in fourth with four points after three matches.
At the bottom and without any points stands Andorra, which has played four matches so far.
