Crystal Palace defeats Liverpool thanks to "Russian roulette" and wins Community Shield

Arne Slot's side were hoping to secure a 17th trophy in this competition, but after a 2-2 draw in regular time, it was Palace who triumphed on penalties to win the Community Shield.

Liverpool started brightly, scoring in the 4th minute through Hugo Ekitike, after a beautiful move by Florian Wirtz. Palace reacted quickly, and in the 17th minute Jean-Philippe Mateta converted from the penalty spot, after Alisson and Van Dijk had brought down Sarr.

Just three minutes later, Jeremie Frimpong restored the advantage for the Reds with a stunning shot over Dean Henderson.

In the second half, Liverpool missed several chances with Ekitike, while Palace did not give up.

After several dangerous attempts, Ismaila Sarr equalized in the 72nd minute, hitting the ball accurately. Until the end, both teams searched for the winning goal, with good chances from Salah and Mateta for Liverpool, as well as Devenny for Palace, but without success.

In the penalty shootout, Crystal Palace proved more accurate, securing their first trophy of the season and extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Liverpool, on the other hand, remain winless in their last five matches.
