Croatian club exjects Serbian player after liking Chetniks' Instagram pages

Croatian club HNK Vukovar 1991 announced today the termination of the contract of 18-year-old goalkeeper Srdan Nedic, who was expected to make his debut in the match against GNK Dinamo Zagreb. The decision came after the club's leaders were informed that the player had followed the "Chetnici 1941" profile on Instagram, known for content that contradicts the club's values.

The said profile has 12 posts and 45 followers. The description reads: "The official website of patriotism. Patriotism and love for the king and the homeland. Kosovo Serbia", written in the Cyrillic alphabet. One of the latest posts is a photograph of Serbian general Draza Mihajlovic, leader of the Chetnik movement during World War II, writes index.hr.

"HNK Vukovar 1991 wishes to inform the public that, immediately after becoming aware of actions contrary to our values and standards, it has taken immediate measures and terminated the contract with the player Srdan Nedic," their communiqué states.

"As a club built on respect, responsibility and integrity, we believe that such behavior is unacceptable and does not represent the values we stand for. We apologise to the fans, partners and the public for failing to take all necessary steps in a timely manner to protect the dignity and reputation of the club. Although we invest great efforts to ensure professional conduct from all our members, we have no control over their private activities outside the club."

"HNK Vukovar 1991 remains committed to the principles and values that guide it and will react uncompromisingly to any case that challenges them," HNK Vukovar said in a statement.

Nedic was scheduled to make his debut for the first team precisely in the challenge against Dinamo, which will take place on Friday at 21:00 at the Maksimir Stadium, for the second round of SuperSport HNL. Dinamo is considered the absolute favorite. In the first round, Dinamo defeated Osijek 2-0, while Vukovar was defeated by Lokomotiva 1-0.

Vukovar's first goalkeeper, Antonio Dakovic, will not be available against Dinamo due to a serious injury. Nedic was scheduled as his replacement, but after the incident occurred, he will not be part of the team.
