Xabi Alonso didn't wait even two minutes to promise a spectacle to the Real Madrid fans. Without a single sheet of paper in hand to help, the new coach of “Los Blancos” gave a clean speech, perfectly structured and without leaving anything out.
He thanked president Florentino Pérez for his trust and his family for their continued support.
Of course, he didn't forget to mention Carlo Ancelotti, whom he described as one of the main 'responsible' people at "Valdebebas" today.
Xabi was ambitious when he spoke about the new project and emphasized that he has clear ideas.
"We have a great team, fantastic players, a team with a very good present. I have many reasons to come here with energy and enthusiasm. We want to achieve great things, things that belong to Real Madrid, like those that are already here," said Alonso, clearly referring to the 15 Champions League titles.
A significant detail: he proudly displayed the 15-star crest during the official photo: "I want people who watch us to say: this is the team I like. For people to come to the stadium to enjoy the matches. If we manage to ignite this feeling, we will have an unstoppable force. I am convinced that we can do beautiful things," underlined Xabi Alonso.
Emotions of the first day: "Without a doubt, it is a very special day. A day that I will mark on my calendar for the rest of my life. This is my home, I have been away for several years, but the connection with Real Madrid has always remained intact. Since I have returned to Valdebebas, this feeling has been rekindled. Thank you for your trust, for thinking that I am the ideal person to lead this new phase, with energy and enthusiasm. I feel that the Madridistas are excited about this new beginning. Thank you Florentino Pérez for your trust."
The new coach also showed respect for Carlo Ancelotti: "I want to talk about the phase that ended and the task that I am taking over from Carlo Ancelotti. He was a coach who left his mark on me, a great man. Without his mastery, I probably wouldn't be here today. I take this legacy with great honor. I hope to fulfill the expectations and take the club to where it deserves and where it wants to be."
