A phone call to try to get closer again, at least in tone, but without repairing the rift. The clarification between Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu, after the controversy following the elimination by Fluminense, has happened. However, it has not served to repair an already fractured relationship and bring calm to a black and blue dressing room divided in two. The distance remains great and the risk of a final separation is anything but remote.

The confrontation, which took place in private between the Argentine's vacation and the Turk's stay at home, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, was intended to explain the mutual points of view. Lautaro, for his part, clarified the meaning of the statements after the elimination from the Club World Cup. Calhanoglu reiterated what he had clearly expressed in the harsh post published on social networks, namely that he did not like the attitude and that public outburst at all. Neither of them took a step back.

Club leaders under observation

Chivu and the management are keeping a close eye on the situation, aware that this internal tension could affect the future of the group (and the likes on Calhanoglu's post by several players, including Marcus Thuram, confirm that the dressing room is currently a powder keg). A sale appears on the horizon, with Galatasaray ready to intervene. But Inter have already set the limits: no sale below 30 million. A slightly lower amount compared to the 35-40 million initially requested, but still far from the 20-25 million that the Turks would like to spend.

The feeling is that Calhanoglu's departure is a concrete hypothesis. His agent, Gordon Stipic, is already working to build the deal. But Inter are not willing to sell one of their starters for free, nor to remain exposed in that role.

Alternatives if Calhanoglu leaves

Potential replacements are already being evaluated: Atalanta's Ederson is the favorite, but the price tag of at least 50 million makes the plan difficult. Alternatives such as Stiller (Stuttgart) or Frendrup (Genoa) remain on the list, while Hjulmand is practically unattainable due to frozen relations with Sporting Lisbon, due to the dispute over Joao Mario.

Meanwhile, the black and blue dressing room remains a powder keg. And twenty days before the gathering, it is still not clear whether Lautaro and Calhanoglu will be in the same dressing room or on opposite fronts.
