FIFA, the world football governing body, has announced a radical change to its match calendar starting from the 2025-26 season. FIFA's new plan consolidates the traditional international matches of September and October into a single extended three-week break from Monday, September 21 to Tuesday, October 6.
During this period, national teams will be limited to playing a maximum of four matches, a move designed to reduce the physical and mental strain on players. The November international break will remain unchanged, maintaining its existing schedule.
The revised calendar, which will remain in force until 2030, addresses years of criticism from players, coaches and clubs about the ongoing match overload.
