Albanian Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha has reacted to the statement of Serbian Minister Ivica Dacic who said that the Serbian flag will one day fly over Prizren, repeating Belgrade's claims over Kosovo.

According to Hoxha, this entire statement is threatening rhetoric that is being used for political gain.

He adds that Kosovo is a sovereign and democratic state, whose future must be one of peace and security.

Feri Hoxha's full statement:

Serbian Minister Ivica Dacic, during the election campaign, promised his audience that he would "raise their flag again" in Kosovo.

Such inflammatory language could be considered mere political rhetoric if there were not a real danger that it would embolden those who are willing to act in this spirit. We have seen this before, many times.

The Banjska incident, for which full responsibility has yet to be established, remains a stark reminder of what can happen when words turn into actions.

Albania remains deeply convinced that the only way forward, however difficult, is through good neighborly relations, regional cooperation, and sincere efforts to heal the wounds of the past and move towards reconciliation.

However, there can be no sustainable regional cooperation as long as realities are denied, the legitimacy of neighbors is questioned, or threatening rhetoric is used for political gain.

Building peace and trust takes time, often years, if not decades. It requires vision, courage, determination, and continued commitment.

Europe itself was built on recognition, dialogue, mutual respect and solidarity, not on denial, fear or nostalgia for the past.

In the Western Balkans, we know all too well where division, nationalism, and provocative rhetoric can lead. We cannot afford to forget these lessons, much less repeat the mistakes of the past.

The Republic of Kosovo is an irreversible reality. It is a sovereign and democratic state, an equal part of our region, and a country that is constantly consolidating its position in the European and international community.

Kosovo is the homeland of all its citizens, regardless of ethnicity, and its future must be one of peace, security, inclusiveness, and European integration.
