In Albania, today's parliament session was dominated by chaos and clashes between the opposition and the majority. Democratic MPs who had entered the hall earlier, collected all the chairs, piling them in front of the parliament floor, an action which was accompanied by direct conflicts between them and their socialist colleagues.
Today's attitude of the opposition was warned by her, while the democratic leaders had expressed that "there will be no normal development of the works of the parliament, as long as the rights of the opposition will not be respected".
The democratic deputies accuse the socialists of being denied their constitutional right to establish investigative commissions, or to appoint opposition representatives to the Electoral Reform Commission.
Despite the opposition's efforts to block the work, the socialists chose to stand, while the speaker of the parliament followed accelerated procedures for approving the issues on the agenda.
From the lectern of the parliament, the democratic deputy Ervin Salianji lit several cigarettes one after the other. The guards tried several times to take them out of the hall. In front of him, on the left wing, the socialists raised the cards for the approval of various acts and laws, without any debate or discussion. The whole session lasted just over 25 minutes.
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha said after the closing of the session that what happened today was a "reaction in the form of civil disobedience and a protest by the opposition MPs with the clear request to restore their constitutional rights." We are the opposition of denied rights, as never before in 32 years", he said.
During yesterday's day, opposition MPs tried to block the Conference of Chairmen in which the Minister of Finance would present the draft budget for 2024. Later, the meeting of the Economy Committee, which was held online, became impossible. /VOA
