At the height of the debate on the gender equality law, the chairman of the Health Committee, Bardh Spahia, started the parliamentary committee meeting held the previous day with notes of humor and irony.
He made a statement that immediately caused laughter in the hall.
"Honorable ladies and gentlemen, to my knowledge, there are no other genders on our committee, if there are, I invite them to declare themselves so that we can address them as well," said Bardh Spahia at the start of the Health Committee.
Meanwhile, the deputy chairman, Eduard Shalsi, is seen laughing while communicating with one of his colleagues who is on the committee.
The Albanian Parliament approved the draft law "On Gender Equality", after debates and reactions for and against it. The draft law was approved in the session of November 6 after debates between deputies of the parliamentary majority and the opposition, with 77 votes in favor, 36 against and no abstentions, out of 140 deputies that the Albanian Parliament has.
With the new proposals for amendments to the draft law, it has been defined that "gender" means the roles and behaviors that a society considers appropriate for women and men.
The law caused debates during the parliamentary session and outside it, while it was opposed by opposition party deputies, since, according to them, "its purpose is the destruction of the family."
