Former President Bamir Topi has commented on the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, expressing that he believes in the separation of powers and wished for justice to be served in the case.

He stated that as a politician he views the case with a dose of tolerance and that Veliaj could be investigated without a security measure.

"I am a politician, I have a certain amount of tolerance, I would consider that the process should continue without being affected and not with measures of this nature," the former president said on "This Week" on News 24.

Bamir Topi: When it comes to justice issues, it's hard for me to interfere, because I don't have the facts. I'm very conscious of what I want to see work, the separation of powers. There's a SPAK decision, but there's also a court, the case is in process and there's legal protection that should protect clients.

When the issue affects the entire family situation, I don't like it at all. Politics is politics, but we cannot separate ourselves from human relationships. I hope that everything goes well for the Veliaj family, that justice is served, and I hope that there will be justice.

Question: Were you in favor of an extreme measure for Veliaj? Or should he continue in office as mayor?

Topi: I am a politician, I have a certain amount of tolerance, I would consider that the process should continue without being affected and not with measures of this nature!

The former president commented on Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement, who said that SPAK should not dare touch his phone.

Topi said that the prime minister's statement comes after an unstable psychological situation and at a bad time, as according to him, Rama cannot be calm with what is happening in his camp.

Topi: Rama's statement comes from an unstable, not good psychological situation. He cannot be calm with what is happening in his camp.

He sees that the investigations are definitely related to his position, because when his associates are being investigated for many affairs, how is it possible that the boss is out of these affairs?

He says he's out, but he has to admit the other thing, that you're totally incapable of managing a team that operates outside of you while you're their leader.

It's the moment when you have to accept one of two things, I don't know which one it is. Either you're incapable of controlling the team, or you're with the team.
