The Secretary of CEAZ No. 30 in Tirana, Remzi Mehmeti, has given a statement to the media, explaining the incident that occurred on Thursday afternoon at the vote counting center in Kashar, where he was hit by an observer.
Mehmeti explained that the origin of the conflict was related to a vote for the SP candidate, Orlando Rakipi, which was being contested by some observers, while explaining that he has filed a criminal complaint against the person who hit him.
According to him, observers had begun to loudly oppose the vote decision.
"Those from the observers' section were loudly contesting a vote. I went nearby and asked them to calm down. They started insulting and shouting."
Mehmeti says that the moment he warned them about taking measures to leave the hall, the situation got out of control:
"I told them that I would demand their removal from the CEAZ. At that moment they crossed the security perimeter and, as you saw in the video, one of them insulted me and hit me."
He added that it was a vote for candidate Orlando Rakipi, which had to be evaluated by the CEAZ, according to procedures.
"The procedure provides for the CEAZ to meet to assess when there are contestations from observers, but we were not given the opportunity to do this. I have filed a criminal complaint at Police Station No. 6 against the persons involved, whom I do not know. We are determined to carry out our duty, despite these situations," said the chairman of the CEAZ, Remzi Mehmeti.
Police have detained 26-year-old Rei Nozlli in connection with the assault on the chairman of the CEAZ in Kashar.
