The distribution of mandates for the political forces that competed in the May 11 parliamentary elections would have been very different if the proportional system had been adopted in Albania.

Journalist Ola Xama has made a calculation of how mandates would be distributed with this system, according to the results so far.

What is striking is that the small parties would double or triple the number of mandates at the expense of the large parties, the SP and the DP. It has often been discussed that this system was agreed upon by the large parties, to be in their own favor, which is also emphasized by journalist Xama.

Journalist Xama's writing:

Proportional system

If the system were national proportional, with the percentage of votes counted so far, the result would be this:

Socialist Party:

73 mandates (52.5%)

Alliance for a Greater Albania:

48 mandates (34.12%)

Social Democratic Party:

5 mandates (3.7%)

The Albania Initiative is:

5 mandates (3.5%)

Possibility:

4 mandates (2.82%)

Joint Movement:

2 terms (1.32%)

Euro-Atlantic Coalition:

2 terms (1.21%)

Right Coalition for Development:

1 term (0.37%)

But the result with today's electoral system is clearly in favor of the big parties, not giving young people the chance to bring new ideas and standards - or to put pressure on traditional parties to correct themselves and build democracy and a system of values ??within themselves.

The SP will likely receive 83 seats, 10 more than it would receive through the national vote, the DP will receive 3 more seats with this formula, while the new parties will receive 6 or a maximum of 8 seats in the Assembly out of 19 that would result from the proportional majority system.

If the parties above, excluding PSD, were on a list together and with the current system, they would manage to get 9.22% of the votes nationally, which would produce a minimum of 10 to 14 mandates according to the results and the closeness that they have so far in some districts, mainly Tirana, Fier and Vlora.
