The Parliamentary Institute has made public the names of several national personalities that will be honored during the month of October, but what has caused strong debate is the inclusion of former dictator Enver Hoxha on this list.

The decision bears the signature of the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, who has listed Hoxha alongside great figures of Albanian literature and history, such as Dritëro Agolli, Naim Frashëri and Sulejman Delvina.

The inclusion of the communist leader who kept Albania isolated for 45 years, imprisoning and deporting thousands of citizens, has been seen as a grave insult to the victims of the dictatorship. Critics see the decision as evidence of the deep nostalgia that part of the socialist majority still holds for the dark era of communism.

What has sparked the most outrage is the official description that the Albanian Parliament gives to Hoxha, calling him "Leader of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War", "Hero of the People" and "Hero of Socialist Labor".

The decision has already sparked another heated debate over how the current government is handling the legacy of the communist dictatorship.

This fact was also denounced by the MP of the Opportunity Party, Erald Kapri, who stated that this is a mockery and that he would ask the Parliament to immediately withdraw that document and apologize.

But how can you mock in this way?

How is it possible that in the material sent on national personalities, you also include Enver Hoxha, and even as a leader honored with titles?

How can the Albanian Parliament ask its members to respect the former dictator who is responsible for thousands of people killed, imprisoned, and exiled?

I asked the Assembly to immediately withdraw that document and apologize!
