The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, from the closing conference of the Berlin Process summit in Tirana, has chosen to speak about the situation created in the Middle East.

Von der Leyen emphasized that the eyes of the world are directed towards the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

She described the latter's actions as cruel and strongly condemned them, stressing that Israel has the right to defense.

But the EC president said that there are innocent people in Gaza who should not be punished for the actions of Hamas.

"There are Palestinians in Gaza who need emergency aid," she said, as she announced that the EU's humanitarian aid to Gaza would be tripled.

In addition to tripling humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, "we are organizing an EU humanitarian air corridor to Gaza via Egypt".

As for the Western Balkans, the president of the EC said that the potential and the economy should be increased and doubled.

"We need to bring our economies even closer." And speed up the necessary reforms for membership".

She emphasized that "we must move forward, faster." Let's seize the moment".
