"On August 1, the camp will be ready", Meloni: We save 136 million
Georgia Meloni

In the joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, the head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, said that the reception center and refugee camp in Shengjin and Gjadër will be ready to open on August 1.

Meloni said that Italy will save 136 thousand euros, with the construction of these camps in Albania. Meloni has stated that the cost that Italy pays for all the procedures and accommodation of these immigrants is 334 million Euros.

The Prime Minister of Italy, Georgia Meloni :  There will also be an area where immigrants will be kept, 'prisoners', if criminal offenses will be committed. Security will be guaranteed by Italian authorities. It will be open from August 1, 2024. There have also been comments on the timing of the construction of the structure. They accused us of setting up a center like Guantanamo, then criticized us for delays. I am convinced that things will work out.

A new phase has been opened for the management of the immigrant flow. It may also serve other countries. We want to leave everything behind and tell them that we will do it successfully. The delay of 2 months is due to the somewhat difficult terrain in Gjadër, but these centers will serve the problem that follows since '91. From the so-called safe countries, 11 thousand people have arrived in Italy. Half of them are vulnerable subjects.

A competition in terms of transport expenses, which reaches 13.5 million euros, also in terms of the situation in the Red Sea or the Mediterranean, we will see the possibility of handling these immigrants. We are convinced that these expenses should not be considered as additional expenses, because even in Italy there would be costs.

334 million Euros per year, which constitute 7.5% of the treatment of immigrants in the national territory, these resources should not be considered as additional resources. Immigrants who will come to Albania, we think that the main element of this agreement is that it can be a powerful tool to prevent immigrants from arriving on the shores of Europe and to fight human trafficking, reducing costs or expenses. We have also achieved a decrease in the number of immigrants who have arrived on our shores. We are making an investment. With the capacity of these centers, given the fact, then we in Italy will save 136 million Euros. We are quite satisfied with the completion of the works.

Through this agreement, our relationship is not only strengthened, but the commercial exchange with Albania increases. Albania is a friendly country of Italy and the EU because Albania behaves as if it were a full member of the EU and adheres to all principles. Italy will be and is a strong supporter of the membership not only of Serbia, but also of the Western Balkans in the EU.
