Sali Berisha called Ibrahim Rugova, the architect of Kosovo's independence, a genius of the Albanian nation. At the promotion of the book "Ibrahim Rugova, the architect of Kosovo's independence", attended by prominent figures from Kosovo and Albania, Berisha exalted the figure of the first President of Kosovo, comparing him to Skanderbeg and Mother Teresa.

"Rugova was a genius of the Albanian nation, an inimitable genius, as Skanderbeg is in his battles and strategy. As Mother Teresa is in the extraordinary strength of morality and the principles she believed in. As Ismail Kadare is in his works. Ibrahim Rugova is in politics."

The leader of the Democratic Party affirmed that Rugova is one of the nation's greatest patriots, describing him not only as a politician but also as a resister and missionary.

"On a philosophical level, Ibrahim Rugova is a statesman of great surprises. This descendant of a patriotic family, of a family of resistance, chose not the rifle, but Gandhism at the head of the line. A choice that no Albanian in history had ever made."

Berisha added that Kosovo's journey towards independence would not have been possible without Rugova's work.

"He managed to create a unity that Kosovo has never had. And this was a unity in his project, in the project of Kosovo's independence, a free and independent Kosovo. Rugova, in this project, moved from one chancellorship to another, from one institution to another, but with his civility and Gandhism, he would be appreciated by the European Parliament with the great Sakharov Prize."

The former Prime Minister also recalled an episode from 1992 in a conversation with Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis, where he presented Rugova as a peaceful leader and representative of two million Albanians.

"My request is to wait for President Ibrahim Rugova. Why should I wait for him? I told him to wait, because he is the founder of the first anti-communist party in the Balkans," Berisha said.

The leader of the Democratic Party accused the Albanian government of holding the statue of Ibrahim Rugova hostage.

"I condemn in the strongest possible terms the storage of Ibrahim Rugova's statue in warehouses for five years by the Tirana narco-regime," he said.

The latest book on Ibrahim Rugova, which includes studies, analysis, and speeches by the first President of Kosovo, was written by Besa Tafilaj and Korab Kastrati.
