Parliament approves in principle the draft law on Gender Equality

With 77 votes in favor and 36 against, the Albanian Parliament approved in principle after a marathon session on Thursday evening the much-debated draft law on Gender Equality.

During the parliamentary session, there were strong retorts between the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, and the leader of the SP group, Taulant Balla. The Socialist Party requested the exclusion of Sali Berisha for 30 days after his statements about the EU ambassador, Silvio Gonzato.

Meanwhile, today, representatives of religious communities protested in front of the Parliament to oppose the draft law on gender equality, which according to organizer Akil Pano, this law is criminal and against the family.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party's request to establish an investigative commission for the dismissal of President Bajram Begaj was rejected by 77 votes.

With this vote, the procedure for the dismissal of President Bajram Begaj is also terminated.
