The "Albania Becomes" movement has filed an official complaint with the Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) against the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC), which granted the mandate of deputy for the Tirana District to candidate Kleana Xhuveli.
This would pave the way for Adriatik Lapaj, who was also the leader of the "Albania Becomes Initiative" coalition, to take office in the May 11 elections.
According to representatives of the USB, the CEC's decision is invalid because the candidates on the closed list for this district, including Xhuveli, have submitted their resignations from the candidacy in advance, before the start of the vote counting process for the May 11 parliamentary elections.
In its appeal to the KAS, "Albania Becomes" requests the annulment of the CEC's decision and the official recognition of the resignations from the candidacy.
According to the legal argument presented by the US, under these conditions the CEC should have proceeded with the distribution of the mandate by referring to the order of the list and respecting the principle of legality and the will expressed by the candidates not to be part of the competition.
