Fires in the country, Vengu: 24 hotbeds still active, all forces on standby

The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, was today in the Berat Region, closely following the operation to extinguish the fire in the Shpirag area and monitor from the Kuçova base, from where the planes coming from the missions of partner countries take off.

He informed about the situation of the fires, the action from the ground and the air, the risks and the measures taken so far.

Vengu explained that today was one of the hottest days that did not favor the situation of fires, with temperatures of 44-45 degrees, as the interventions continue with intensity.

There are 36 fires in the last 24 hours alone, where 12 have been extinguished and 24 remain active. Three districts are problematic: Vlora, Berat and Dibra. The Farka helicopter base is also active in the missions.

"We are at the Kuçova base, from where the situation is being monitored and forces have been engaged, including Canadair planes for 48 hours in all hotbeds of fires throughout the country, as well as at the Farka base, from where helicopters operate. The situation also went according to forecasts, as the temperatures were high, they reached extreme figures of up to 44-45 degrees Celsius. For this reason, we have had a situation with 36 fires declared throughout the country and for which all means are being worked to extinguish them. 12 of them have died and 24 are still active.

There are also numerous forces in all municipalities in the field. Currently, the aerial operation has been suspended due to darkness and will resume tomorrow. Operational work plans are made for interventions the day before", said the Minister.

He also gave details about the map of the fires and the most critical areas where the attention of troops and institutions is focused.
