The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, says that the new Criminal Code introduced today aims to approximate the rule of law with the conventions, directives and standards of the European Union.
According to Manja, this new Criminal Code has been drafted through a comprehensive process and with the engagement of experts.
Manja's reaction:
A modern Criminal Code for Albania!
The presentation of the final draft of the New Criminal Code, in front of the main actors of the justice system, international partners, universities, civil society and the media, marks an important step towards strengthening the rule of law in the country. This draft, which today enters the public consultation phase, is a fundamental document for the protection of the rights and freedoms of every citizen.
The New Criminal Code is the product of a comprehensive and professional process, where the best criminal law experts have been engaged. It aims to align with EU and international conventions, directives and standards, recommendations of key justice institutions, as well as contributions from international partners, academics, civil society and media.
Albania is entering a new phase of development. With this New Criminal Code, we respond to new social, economic and technological challenges with a modern approach: decriminalizing behaviors that no longer pose a social risk and criminalizing actions that violate the life, safety and dignity of citizens.
This is not just a legal change. The New Criminal Code is an act of guarantee for Albania's European future — a contemporary, fair and functional legislation for a developing democratic society.
