Even though in conditions of isolation in prison, Ilir Meta continues to be active in the election campaign, but his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, said that she has not communicated with him.
"I have not communicated and we do not communicate together, I do not care at all. I do my duty. Regarding my personal relationship with public opinion, but also with that structure that I have founded myself and we have all founded together," said Kryemadhi in the Debate by Alba Alishani on A2 CNN.
The mayor said that after May 11, he will start a different life, away from politics.
"I have contributed for over 21 years and this is the maximum contribution of my life, which makes me completely independent in my stance on it. I don't care at all what you think. After May 11, I finish my duty and then it's a completely different life for me," said Kryemadhi in the Debate.
The mayor said she would seek votes for the father of her children, for whom she would give her life (i.e. for the children).
Kryemadhi added that she was once ready to give her life for Ilir Meta, but according to her, at the age of 50, there can be no story like Romeo and Juliet.
She also spoke about diaspora votes, about which she said that despite methods to make them as secure as possible, this vote is still vulnerable.
"I think that unlike other elections where vote buying has been massive in the past elections in Albania, this time I think that vote buying can be played openly in the diaspora. Despite the fact that technically the process of receiving the ballot, voting, closing it in envelope A and B is very correct, how protected is the diaspora vote that is not family and is not secret... And on the other hand in the conditions in which they are today, where the majority of voters are in Greece and Italy, where the salaries of the majority of immigrants in these 2 countries are very low and taking into account the economic turnover of certain interest groups, in terms of vote buying. However, it is not as widespread as it was before in Albania.
"I have said that I will seek the vote for the father of my children for whom I give my life. A few years ago I would give my life for Ilir Meta, but the priorities of a 50-year-old woman are completely different compared to a young girl, because in all the stories of Romeo and Juliet we have seen them with 18-year-olds and 20-year-olds. There is no 50-year-old Romeo and Juliet," said Kryemadhi.
During a conversation with journalist Alba Alishani, the former LSI leader expressed her regret for Ilir Meta being left on the open list. She pointed out some of the problems that PL is facing today that are related to the loss of contact with the ground.
"Party structures are not administrative. A party like LSI that has been in the middle, like a sandwich, its cell has been the terrain. The moment you cut off contact with them, it happened that by damaging the structure you have no point in spreading the message and collecting votes. Unlike other times, this thing... I didn't want to get too involved. I was upset that Ilir Meta was placed on the open list. Not that he wouldn't do it. He was in his habitat and returned to his political decision-making. I was upset that I see a group of people who, when he was outside, were cutting their wrists," said Kryemadhi.
Kryemadhi also spoke about those who left the LSI, according to whom a good part of them were approached by Mayor Veliaj with the sole aim of exerting pressure on Prime Minister Rama. According to her, the arrest of the Tirana mayor was made on the orders of Edi Rama "to restrain the rival."
"A smokescreen was raised by Veliaj that they don't have a database. There are 54 thousand members. They forget that it was delivered to them, printed and on USB. I'm ready to bring the expert to find out when it was deleted. All those who have left the LSI are part of Erion Veliaj's structure and not Rama's.
A faction was intended to fight Edi Rama. LSI had 28 thousand votes and they were not few for Veliaj. Arresting Veliaj was also to restrain his rival. I believe that his arrest was the prime minister's agenda to put his rival in prison. You don't have to arrest Veliaj for women's clothes, arrest him for incinerators. The same as they did to Lefter Koka , "said Kryemadhi.
