Socialist leader Edi Rama aims for 200,000 out of 246,000 immigrants who have registered to vote in the May 11 parliamentary elections to vote for the Socialist Party.
The objective was revealed during a meeting with the majority candidates for the Tirana District.
"We are here the embodiment of the will of nearly 800 thousand Albanians and Albanians who, with the vote of the diaspora, can reach close to 1 million, and it is impossible not to think and not to try to make this strength available to everyone, despite the differences we may have at the table when talking about our views on one issue or another. In the end, we must be ready to make the Socialist Party available to all those who want to achieve and who share great goals with us ," said Rama.
In the 2021 elections, turnout was around 1.66 million voters, with 622,000 votes going to the Democratic Party.
The Socialist Party received almost 770,000 votes and its de facto ally in the Assembly, PSD, another 30,000. If it is to maintain its support in 2021, the majority has 800,000 votes and to approach the target set by Edi Rama, at least 200,000 votes from immigrants are needed.
The weight of the immigrant vote could determine up to 24 seats in the Assembly that will emerge after these elections.
