In the first meeting organized with the structures of the Democratic Party in Lezhë, where the general secretary Flamur Noka presented the new political leader, Agron Gjekmarkaj, in front of the democrats of this district, there were strong debates and clashes.

Gjekmarkaj has been contested by a large number of local PD leaders in Lezhë, who have expressed dissatisfaction with him. Some of the local DP officials in this district have stated that if Gjerkmarkaj will be finally installed as a political leader in Lezhë, they will not campaign to seek votes for the Democratic Party.

Some others are known to have requested the observance of the primaries, a principle that was promised by Sali Berisha in the Assembly on December 11, 2021.

Agron Gjekmarkaj became a deputy from the PD lists in the elections of April 25, 2021, but then he was second on the list after Mark Mark, who was a political leader.

The contestation against Gjekmarkaj is basically related to the positions he held during 2 years of internal conflict in the DP. At the beginning of this conflict, Agron Gjekmarkaj was against SALI BERISHA's movement, but in the last 12 months he changed his approach, where together with several other MPs, part of the "Bardhi group" who approached the DP and took several leadership positions in the party and recently at the beginning of September, chief democrat Berisha was entrusted with several important counties, such as Lezha, Kukësi, Fieri, Dibra or Elbasani.
