The Chairman of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee,  David McAllister , said in a statement to the media that the visit, which began on Monday after lunch in Montenegro and then in Tirana, comes at a time when Albania has opened the last group chapter of negotiations with the EU.

He announced that work has begun on the annual report that will be presented to the European Parliament next Thursday.

David McAllister, in a press conference, indicated that he had held meetings with representatives of the Democratic Party, Gazmend Bardhi, Tabaku and Albana Vokshi.

Meanwhile, he explained that he would not meet the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, as he would leave directly after the press conference for the airport.

"I met with Bardhi, Tabaku and Vokshi, but I will not meet with Berisha because I will be leaving for the airport," he said.

The head of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee also commented on the case of Belinda Balluku.

He says he is aware of this issue, emphasizing that it is not only a legal issue, but also a political responsibility.

"I cannot comment in detail on individual cases. But for this case involving Ms. Balluku, I would say that it is an issue that will be a critical test for Albania in the fight against corruption," said David McAllister.

McAllister emphasized that the Balluk issue was part of discussions during the visit and meetings in Tirana, while stating that he is not in a position to comment on an individual issue.

McAllister emphasized that beyond the legal aspect, there is also a dimension of political responsibility.

"This issue has played a role during our visit and meetings in Albania. I am not in a position to comment on an individual case. I am coming from Brussels and I am aware of the case, but I will not get involved in the legal issues of this case," he stated.
