Shock in Italy/ Inter goalkeeper crashes to death 81-year-old man

Inter Milan's Josep Martinez has hit and killed an 81-year-old man in a wheelchair near the team's training center. According to Italian media, the accident happened this morning, at around 9:30, in the Fenegro area, near Como.

Despite the immediate intervention of rescue teams, the elderly man died instantly. Martinez got out of his car unharmed, but in a state of shock.

As reported by La Repubblica, initial assessments indicate that the elderly man may have felt unwell, which led him to suddenly change course and go in the opposite direction, resulting in a collision with the Spanish footballer's vehicle. The collision, according to eyewitnesses, was particularly violent. Ambulances, a rescue helicopter and the carabinieri immediately rushed to the scene.

Martinez, as Italian reports point out, immediately stopped to offer assistance and cooperated fully with authorities, being visibly shaken by the incident.

Who is Joseph Martinez?

Joseph Martinez began his career in the Barcelona academy, from where he moved to Las Palmas. In July 2025, Leipzig paid 2.5 million to buy him and in 2023 he was loaned to Genoa, who after a year paid 3.5 million to acquire his exclusive rights. In 2024, Inter paid no less than 14 million to take him to Milan.
