The most livable cities in the world for 2024

It is considered among the most beautiful cities in the world to visit, and it seems that Vienna can also be an unbeatable place to live. The Austrian city has once again been crowned the most liveable city in the world in the annual list by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which was published yesterday.

The EIU, a sister organization of The Economist, ranked 173 cities across the globe on a number of important factors, including healthcare, culture and environment, stability, infrastructure and education.

Vienna topped the list for the third year in a row, receiving "perfect" scores in four of the five categories that the city scored lowest for culture and environment due to a notable lack of major sporting events.

Close behind the Austrian capital, Denmark's Copenhagen retained second place, while Switzerland's Zurich rose from sixth to third on the list. Australia's Melbourne fell from third to fourth, while the Canadian city of Calgary tied for fifth with the Swiss city of Geneva.

Canada's Vancouver and Australia's Sydney were joint seventh, and Japan's Osaka and New Zealand's Auckland rounded out the top 10 in ninth.

While Western Europe performed well, with 30 cities scoring an average score of 92 out of 100, the region saw an overall decline in stability scores, which was attributed to "increasing cases of disruptive protests" and crime.

At number 23, Honolulu, Hawaii was the highest US city on the list, while Atlanta, Georgia climbed four places to number 29. Los Angeles was further down the list at number 58, while New York was ranked 70th.
