The Albanian soprano from Mitrovica Elbenita Kajtazi was in the Podcast of Prime Minister Edi Rama on Facebook this Saturday. Baptized as "Cinderella from Mitrovica", the soprano has narrated the beginnings of her career, her personal life and the communication with Ermonela Jahon, who gave the green light to her participation on the world stage.
She studied at the Music Academy of Mitrovica and graduated from the University of Pristina, making her debut with the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, singing many concerts throughout the season. But this did not satisfy Elbetina who, thanks to her mother's will, found the courage to write to Ermonela Jaho.
"A message from Ermonela gave me light at the end of the tunnel. I was in a bad place in my psyche and I told my mother I decided to retire. My mother told me that there is no chance to withdraw, you have gone through all this trouble. Reaching the Kosovo Philharmonic did not seem abundant to me. At that moment, Ermonela was on TV giving an interview in London when she was performing Traviata and I wrote her on Facebook. For me, it was a happy and exciting moment when Ermonela replied that; don't forget that you have capacity and we can talk. I was lucky that after a month she came to Kosovo and we met and she gave me hope that she would not be attracted to me".
During the conversation, she confessed that when she was little in Mitrovica, she sold milk before and after the war, and for that she feels proud.
"I sold milk very successfully as a child. We had a very big family. At that time, Mitrovica was not so built up, we had the opportunity to keep the cows inside the yard, I sold milk before and after the war, since we found the cows. Grandma had put a red sheep on the cow so that if we came back after the war we would find it. We have worked on whatever work we have rebuilt together and I am very proud of that part of my life".
Elbenita Kajtazi has won several national and international awards.
