The ancient city of Presicce

The local authorities in a picturesque village in Italy will give about 29 thousand euros to people who are willing to buy a house and move there. The ancient town of Presicce in the Puglia region is offering cash in the hope of breathing new life into its dwindling community as houses face ruin.

What makes the proposition even more attractive is that Presicce is only a 15-minute drive from the "pristine" beaches of the south-east coast of Italy, including Santa Maria di Leuca.

This is the latest case of Italian officials handing out money to renovate so-called "ghost villages" and rural areas across the country. In recent years, people all over the world dreaming of a place in the sun have bought properties at very cheap prices with the promise of renovating them.
