Bruce Lee may have died because he drank too much water. This is the conclusion reached by doctors about 50 years after the extinction of the legend of martial arts.
Lee died in the summer of 1973, aged 32, in Hong Kong. The autopsy showed that the Hollywood star died as a result of swelling of the brain, caused by the sedatives he was taking.
His untimely death led to rumors that he was killed by the Chinese mafia, that he was poisoned by a jealous girlfriend or even that he was the victim of a curse. Another theory was death from the heat.
But a group of experts draw another conclusion these days: Bruce Lee died of hyponatremia.
"We think that the kidneys' inability to excrete excess water killed Bruce Lee," reads the Clinical Kidney Journal.
The study points out that the martial arts expert was at high risk of hyponatremia, as he drank a lot of fluids during the day, used cannabis (which increases thirst) and took drugs that damage the kidney.
His wife Linda has previously revealed that Bruce Lee had a very high diet of carrot and apple juice during the last months of his life.
Bruce Lee passed away just weeks before the premiere of Enter the Dragon, the first major Kung Fu film produced in the West.
