We all take medicine, whether it's to relieve a headache or a muscle ache. Although the use of medications is common, there are those who find it difficult to swallow the small pill and prefer to digest its contents in a drink.
A study published in the scientific journal "Physics of Fluids" suggests that we should pay more attention to this process. The experiment, conducted by a group of researchers from Johns Hopkins University, reveals that the position in which our body is when we take a pill can make it work sooner or later. It all depends on how quickly the pill reaches the intestine, as it begins to dissolve in the body and has an effect only when it is part of the digestive system.
The researchers tested four different positions: lying on their left and right sides, face up and upright. And the conclusion they reached is that the most effective way to take a pill is lying on the right side of the body, as the medicine is absorbed 2.3 times faster than in other cases.
The time it took to assimilate the medicine for people who took the pill lying on their right side did not exceed 10 minutes. Those who did the same thing upright or lying on their back assimilated it in 23 minutes. And, those who took the pill lying on their left side took 1 hour and 40 minutes.
