NASA has warned that several asteroids will make their closest approach to Earth, including a 190-meter-long asteroid. August seems like the perfect time for sky watchers to see the stars. They have access to the Perseid meteor shower and the last supermoon, as well as many other upcoming events that will leave people in awe.
While these provide a spectacle for the eye, there are other objects in the sky that spread terror. Several space rocks are flying through space, posing a great threat to Earth. Yesterday, the giant asteroid 2022 OT1, 110 feet (33 m), flew within a close distance of 4.7 million kilometers from Earth.
NASA says that asteroids normally travel around the sun, but can change their orbital paths due to the gravitational pull of the planets, which can sometimes cause them to collide with themselves.
NASA's asteroid watch has indicated that four asteroids will approach Earth in the coming days. One of the largest asteroids will be a 190-meter one called 2022 PC, which will pass within 6.3 million kilometers of our planet on August 18.
It is much larger than the asteroid that passed by Earth yesterday. It will move at a speed of 4.07 kilometers per second. However, there is another "horror" that is approaching the Earth much closer than all these asteroids.
On August 16, the 2022 PW space rock will make its closest approach at a distance of 529,000 kilometers from Earth. The average distance between the Earth and the Moon is about 385,000 kilometers. However, it is relatively smaller than other asteroids that are preparing to visit outer space around Earth.
NASA's Asteroid Watch panel monitors asteroids and comets that approach Earth each day at relatively close range to detect objects potentially dangerous to the planet. According to the latest information, the airplane-sized asteroid 2022 0A4 is approaching Earth today at a speed of 7.86 km/s.
