The Assembly approved after midnight with 85 votes in favor the draft law on the new administrative and territorial division, which provides for the reduction of the number of municipalities.

The vote took place amid tensions and clashes in the hall.

The majority secured the majority deemed necessary for approval, exceeding the threshold of 84 votes by one vote.

In the vote in principle, the draft law received 84 votes in favor, while 116 deputies were present at the session.

Socialist MPs Erion Braçe and Elisa Spiropali, who had previously announced their opposition, also voted in favor of the bill.

After the vote, Brace told A2cnn that he would explain the decision to vote in favor the next day.

Prime Minister Edi Rama arrived in the hall moments before the vote.

Democratic Party deputies threw objects at him, and the session was accompanied by chaos and tension.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku was also present.

The new territorial division foresees the merger of 15 municipalities.
