Socialist MP Spiropali was critical of her SP colleagues as she spoke at the session where territorial reform is being discussed. Spiropali said that the SP must find the strength to reform itself, to purify itself for the good of the country.
While criticizing socialist MPs who speak with triumphalist tones, she emphasized that the mayors should have more power, more responsibility, and not be treated as a facade.
Finally, Spiropali called for decentralization of power and reform of the electoral system so that MPs who only raise their voices for every decision but are accountable to citizens do not come to the Assembly.
"It is with great regret that I see this session, when they are protesting outside, but also beyond, where there is a loss of trust between citizens and politics, in the social contract with citizens. I want to start with myself, with the majority, with the party I represent.
Territorial Reform is not simply about how many municipalities there are, but how much power they should actually have. How many decisions are made with the citizen so that he feels part of them. Can we reform the government and can we pass this from local government to all governments?
I am very confident that we will continue with decentralization. If we demand more responsibility from mayors, we must demand this from every government and authority. How is it guaranteed that we have independence within political parties? Mayors cannot be treated as a facade of the ruling party and cannot be called as if they are subordinates.
I am very sorry for my colleagues who speak in triumphalist tones, completely inappropriate. We are stronger, we will overcome...
It is not normal to win all the municipalities. Albania needs less concentration of power, institutions need to be stronger than the people who exercise them. Less personalization of power, more deputies who deserve the country, who are responsible.
We also need to reform the electoral system, which no longer produces anything. The political system must be open, citizens must know who they are voting for.
"The parliament of the future is not a parliament with obedient deputies, but responsible ones who have politics as a vocation. We must have the courage to reform ourselves internally, the government, the electoral system," said SP MP Spiropali.
