Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the Black Sea wheat agreement will be extended by 120 days with the efforts of Turkey and the UN.

"The wheat agreement will be extended for 120 days. Ukraine together with (UN Secretary General) Antonio Guterres and (Turkish President) Recep Tayyip Erdogan took the key decision in the global fight against the food crisis. Awaiting the official announcement from partners, Turkey and the UN," Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter.

The deal, signed in July in a major breakthrough in easing the global food crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, was due to expire on Saturday.

Ukraine and Russia together account for nearly a third of global wheat exports, and the wheat deal has played a crucial role in lowering the price of wheat and other commodities globally.
