Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has spoken after the cancellation of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's visit to Serbia.
He spoke about the details of the cancellation of the visit last night on RTS Daily, reports B92.
"I have to say I'm not surprised," Vucic said initially.
"I said I expect complications, we are skeptical of anything I say, it was not a surprise. "We followed him day by day as he went, the changes that came his way," he said.
"Believe me, how much pressure Serbia has had because of those visits," Vucic added.
"I dont understand. What did Serbia do wrong? Who did we hurt? Or is it simply our refusal to be part of the herd that causes someone headaches. "They understand that they can do nothing to Russia, so they are 'venting their anger in Serbia,'" Vucic said.
"If you look at the vocabulary they use, with which someone does not treat us as neighbors and friends… if I wanted to behave like them I would say 'excuse me, I'm not very fascinated by their threats and commanding tone. Better for someone to want to talk to us. "We have condemned the incursion into Ukraine, but Russia is a traditional friend of Serbia," he said.
Vucic added: "How are you going to tell the Serbs that Russia can no longer be our friend?" He asked. "We have a lot to talk about. "I wanted to ask Lavrov when we could get a firefighting helicopter to put out fires across the region faster."
"And let me ask you - what makes Vucic such a bad guy? Do you want to say this to Turkey tomorrow because Lavrov will go to Ankara? Do you want to exclude Turkey from NATO? "It seems that you can only behave like this with small Serbia," Vucic said.
He stated that some leaders of EU countries were allowed to go to Putin's residence in Moscow.
"The Associated Press calmly claims that Vucic has violated all sanctions. Tell me which ones and who put them on? They say they do not use Russian gas, but how? They let him go to Germany and then use him from there. The same gas, but they say it is no longer Russian gas. "Who are you kidding?" The Serbian president asked.
"I have a very bad feeling about the situation in the world, but it is our right to fight and save our country and live as normally as possible, not just to survive," he concluded.
Recall that Lavrov's visit to Belgrade was canceled after Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Bulgaria blocked the flight of the plane of the head of Russian diplomacy.
