The minister is shot to death by his childhood friend

Officials have stated that the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic Orlando Jorge Mera was shot dead in his office by a close friend.

55-year-old Orlando Minister Jorge Mera was holding a working meeting at the time of the attack. At least 6 gunshots were heard. According to a presidential spokesman, the alleged perpetrator is a childhood friend of the minister, Miguel Cruz.

It is learned that Cruz is now in custody, while the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Also through a statement, the family of Minister Jorge Mera said he had been shot several times by a person with whom he had been friends since childhood.
