Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? has announced that he will resign from the post of head of state, a few days after announcing parliamentary elections.
"In my capacity as President of the Republic, I must announce parliamentary elections and then I will resign in a few days," Vu?i? said in an interview with Pink TV.
He stated that if the ruling Serbian Progressive Party asks him to be a candidate for prime minister, then he will not campaign as the country's president, but as an ordinary citizen.
"I want to show that I can have the same conditions as everyone else, fight and win," Vu?i? declared.
Asked about the possibility of another electoral race and whether he feels tired, the Serbian president said that it would be untrue to claim that he is not tired, but it would also not be accurate to say that he has run out of energy.
Vu?i? emphasized that parliamentary elections will be held first, followed by presidential elections.
