At least 13 people have lost their lives as a result of the wave of severe weather that hit the Italian region of Emilia Romagna.
In the city of Cesena, the river Savio has burst its banks and many people have climbed onto the roofs of houses because of the flood, while the carabinieri have helped dozens of elderly people to leave the ground floors where they live.
Others were rescued by neighbors, like a woman who lived on the first floor and was trapped with a small child, according to La Repubblica.

"Essentially, we are experiencing a new earthquake. President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni are in constant contact with our local authorities", said the president of the Emilia Romagna region, Stefano Bonacini.
The Civil Defense of the country underlines that "the flooded area, with incalculable damages, is large and at this stage even the members of the rescue teams are in danger". In addition to floods, there are also many landslides, which are also a great danger for those driving on small rural roads.
At the same time, the municipality of Bologna called on citizens to leave shops and ground floor apartments.
"More than seven hundred firefighters are working in the affected areas. At the moment, our main priority, of course, is to save the people who are in danger," said Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piadendozzi.
