Following the decision of the Special Court in The Hague, which this Wednesday sentenced the former leaders of the KLA to a total of 81 years in prison, a video from 2014 has come to light, in which Albin Kurti warned the then Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, about the creation of this special court.

In the published video, Kurti opposed the creation of the Special Court and addressed Prime Minister Thaçi directly, claiming that he was allowing the creation of the tribunal with the belief that he himself would not end up before him.

"The tribunal or special court is not being created if this Prime Minister of Kosovo does not want it to be created, but Thaçi is allowing this tribunal because he believes that he himself will not end up there. If there is any international friend who can help Kosovo, he should do so by showing the Prime Minister that he himself will end up there too," Kurti said.

The statement dates back to April 2014, when Hashim Thaçi was prime minister of Kosovo. At that time, the issue of establishing a special court to deal with allegations of crimes committed during and after the Kosovo war was part of the political debate in the country.

On August 3, 2015, the Kosovo Assembly approved constitutional amendments that paved the way for the establishment of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.

The video has returned to the spotlight this Wednesday, following the announcement of the verdict against four former KLA leaders in The Hague, Hashim Thaçi, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli and Rexhep Selimi, who were sentenced to a total of 81 years in prison.
