The deaths of Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were not the result of a gas leak, authorities in New Mexico have said.

A New Mexico gas company confirmed this in a wide-ranging investigation into a possible gas and carbon monoxide leak in the couple's home, the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office said.

The company, however, said that during an investigation it discovered a "small leak" in one of the parts of the furnace.

However, this is not even enough to suspect that it may have caused death.

"These results are not believed to have revealed a key factor in the deaths of Gene Hackman, Betsy Arakawa or their dog," the official said.

This caused the main runway to collapse.

Hackman and Arakawa, along with their dog, were found dead in their New Mexico home. The couple's bodies were discovered by a worker at their home on Wednesday.

The causes of Hackman and Arakawa's deaths are still unknown. The investigation is ongoing and the case is becoming increasingly mysterious.

There is no suspicion of violent death.

At a news conference, the sheriff said the couple had “been dead for some time,” but could not specify how long. Investigators are trying to determine who was in contact with Hackman and Arakawa and when.
