In France, a person has escaped from prison by hiding in a cellmate's suitcase.
French authorities describe the incident as unusual and have launched investigations into prison security.
A 20-year-old prisoner arrested for murder and gang membership managed to escape from a Lyon prison last Friday.
The manner of his escape has attracted international media attention. The convict, named Elyazid A, escaped by hiding in a suitcase belonging to his cellmate, who was released from prison that day.
The fugitive was caught three days later, in the basement of an apartment north of Lyon. The escape took place during the release of his cellmate, who had a suitcase trolley that transported him to a car parked outside the prison.
Prison staff only noticed the convict missing the next morning. This is one of the most unusual escapes, as no outside accomplices, explosives or helicopters were used, but only a rolling suitcase.
The other person, who allegedly helped him by transporting the suitcase, is still wanted and is being investigated for aiding and abetting the escape.
The Lyon prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for "escape within an organized group" and "criminal organization."
An internal investigation has also been opened by the French prison service, which promised appropriate disciplinary measures.
