US President Donald Trump will not meet any of the European leaders at the farewell ceremony for Pope Francis.

The possibility of holding a summit between the European Union and US President Donald Trump, taking advantage of his presence in Rome for the funeral of Pope Francis, appears to have fallen through. According to the official program published by the White House, Trump will leave immediately after the funeral ceremony on Saturday to celebrate his wife, Melania,'s birthday at home.

Meanwhile, the US president is facing a lawsuit filed by twelve US states over the tariffs. These states accuse Trump of not having the authority to “arbitrarily impose tariffs” and are asking the Supreme Court to stop his administration from implementing what they have called “unlawful tariffs.” A few days ago, California also filed a lawsuit against Trump on the same issue.

For its part, the White House has reacted sharply to the fines imposed by the European Union on Apple and Meta, calling them "a new form of economic blackmail that will not be tolerated."

According to the Financial Times, the US president intends to exempt car manufacturers from some of the highest tariffs he has previously imposed. This exemption is seen as a victory for the automotive industry, after the numerous pressures that have come from this sector.

The Trump administration intends to continue its policy of selective tariffs on China, but is considering the possibility of reducing some of the customs duties to avoid further tensions in international markets. "Within two to three weeks, agreements will be reached with several countries, possibly even with China," Trump said.

On the other hand, Beijing has denied that trade talks with the United States have been opened and has described as "false information" the recent statements by American officials, according to which the parties are in negotiations and are expected to reach an agreement.
