US President Donald Trump says that "football" is the right word for the world's most popular sport, which Americans call "soccer".

While attending the World Cup draw in Washington, Trump revealed that he has been a soccer fan since childhood.

In the US, American football is the sport played with an oval-shaped ball, similar to rugby. But according to Trump, it makes sense that the word football - which comes from the words foot and ball - refers to the sport of soccer, which is played with the feet.

"I remember when I was a kid, I watched Pele play, he scored three goals in that game. When we look at what happened to him, and football in the US is called soccer, because we have another sport called football, but when you think about it, shouldn't it be called football? This is football, we should think of another name for the NFL," Trump said.
