Three Americans killed in ISIS attack in Syria, Trump vows revenge

Three Americans, including two soldiers and a civilian interpreter, were killed in Syria during an attack by a member of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group, U.S. Central Command announced. Three other soldiers were wounded, while the attacker was neutralized.

US President Donald Trump called the incident an "ISIS attack" on the US and Syria and warned of "very serious retaliation".

"Sadly, we honor the loss of three great American patriots in Syria, two soldiers and a civilian interpreter," Trump wrote, adding that the other three wounded soldiers are out of danger.

According to the US president, the attack took place in an "extremely dangerous" area of ??Syria that is not fully under the control of the Syrian authorities.

Trump stressed that Syria's president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, is "extremely angry and shocked" by the event.

"This was an ISIS attack against the United States. There will be very serious retaliation," Trump warned, without providing further details on the nature of the American response.

The identities of the victims are being kept secret for 24 hours until their families are notified.

According to the US Central Command, the attack took place in Palmyra, in central Syria, during a joint operation with Syrian authorities. A Pentagon official said the area is not under the control of the Syrian president.

Syrian services reported that two other people were wounded, while the US confirmed that the three wounded soldiers are “in good condition.” US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth warned that anyone who attacks Americans will be pursued and eliminated.

The incident comes as Syria is part of an international coalition to combat the ISIS terrorist group and stem the flow of foreign militants into the Middle East. The US ambassador to Turkey and special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, condemned the attack and reaffirmed the US commitment to fighting terrorism together with Syrian partners.
